Farewell to Summer 2008

Belgrade Lakes dam

The leaves are just beginning to turn in this view of the dam that separates Great Pond from Long Pond in Belgrade Lakes Village.

Dear Readers:

Summer 2008 ends on a high note — an early Labor Day Weekend full of the wholesome, happy family activities that are the trademark of this beautiful region: lake events, art exhibits, a parade, fireworks, sales, village settings . . . most important a lot of fun for very little driving.

As we move ahead to that best season of all, autumn, and to the structures and schedules of school, sports and work routines, the memories of summer move with us: the good glow of days (or even moments stolen from busy schedules) outdoors, the awesome knowledge that when the rains came there were an abundance of indoor outings for visitors and vacationers and residents to enjoy, the awareness that throughout this region safety, security and pro-activity are a high priority, and the appreciation that comes from enjoying the small and simple gifts of nature.

Thank you to our many advertisers for your support of Summertime, your enthusiasm for the area, your unending hard work during this busy season . . . and your ready smiles.

We also would like to thank our grandsons, Corey, age 3½, and Ethan, 11 months, who accompanied us, especially Corey, during distribution, reminding us of the importance of family and how just two years ago our 90-ish parents helped distribute Summertime.

May you all have a winter warm and may you not wait until next summer to come back to the Belgrades. Autumn is beckoning. . . .

Sincerely,

Esther, Erle, and all the staff!
