One of the great travel adventures along the Kennebec Corridor is to head north to Maine's neighboring province and the "EuroStyle" walled city of Quebec. Leading there, Route 201 and the Kennebec River follow the footsteps of the native Indians, the French explorers, the military expedition of Benedict Arnold, and the dream getaway of the modern day tourist.

Awesome wilderness scenery all the way to the Canadian Border.

Past awesome woods, wildlife, waterways, and rugged mountain vistas, the road traverses the occasional, frontierlike village &151; hub to waterwater rafting and other outdoor sports and continues to the Canadian border. From there on, well kept farms dot the landscape, cathedral spires tower over the villages, signs are in French and the city of St. Georges provides a central stopover.

Although Quebec City is a treat to visit any time, the official celebration of its 400th anniversary on Thursday, July 3, promises a spectacular schedule. The day will begin with the Freedom of the City Ceremony followed by a salute to Samuel de Champlain founder of Quebec), the formal High Mass and an impressive military parade.

"ENCOUNTERS: The Commemorative Show" will follow the official ceremonies, and will involve a recount of the 400 years of Quebec though ten impressionist and musical tableaux, joined by some of Quebec' greatest performers. The show will be presented again on July 4 and 5.

Pedestrians stroll on a narrow cobblestone street in the old city, with the Château Frontenac looming on the cliff above.
