Here's To Everyone's Health!
Groundbreaking for the new Belgrade Regional Health Center.
"A major step up for everyone in the area," was how Congressman Tom Allen summarized the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the future Belgrade Regional Health Center. As an enthusiastic gathering at the new Route 27 site looked on, dignitaries, HealthReach and town officials, supporters and the health center staff took turns wielding the symbolic gold triple-spade. "I go to a lot of these," Rep. Allen described. "The importance of this center is that the community has raised the money to make it possible." The story of the community fundraising is a short and successful one. Located in the former Belgrade school since 1977, the Belgrade Regional Health Center had long since outgrown its space when it was decided in 2004 to build a new facility. Board members, community members, and everyone on the staff contributed to the campaign. Projected to be completed in December 2005, the new Health Center will continue to be a valuable community resource that welcomes regular patients, new ones, summer residents, and visitors only now there will be a lot more room for patients, a large parking area, and uncrowded space for the staff. As part of the funding, the current building in Belgrade Lakes as well as an adjacent parcel of land will be sold. Contributions for the new Health Center are still welcomed and may be sent to: Belgrade Regional Health Center, P.O. Box 304, Belgrade Lakes, ME 04918. | ||
