Gardiner Main Street Receives Grants
Two historic preservation grants have recently been awarded to the Gardiner Main Street Program: $5,250 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation from its Johanna Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation and $2,000 by the Northeast Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Both grants will be used to help fund the comprehensive planning phase for the Johnson Hall Renovation Partnership. The Johanna Favrot Fund grant is a highly competitive national grant created in 1994 by a generous grant from the Favrot family in honor of the 80th birthday of Texas preservationist Johanna Favrot. The Johanna Favrot fund fosters appreciation of America's diverse cultural heritage, and preserves and revitalizes the livability of the nation's communities by saving historic environments. Grants range from $2,500 to $10,000 and must be matched at least dollar-for-dollar with public or private funds.
The Northeast Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation grant is made available through funding from the Thorne Intervention Fund of the Trust. The Johnson Hall Renovation Partnership Johnson Hall, Gardiner Main Street, Gardiner Board of Trade and the City of Gardiner are working with a consultant team headed by Ann Beha Architects of Boston and Holt & Lachman Architects & Planners of Portland to develop a theater renovation architectural sketch plan, a business plan for the future facility, organizational development, and a fundraising feasibility study for the rehabilitation of the historic three story Johnson Hall Opera House, 280 Water Street in Gardiner.
