Campers Are Invited To Maine Farm Days

Visit a farm, see where dairy products come from, pet some farm animals, wander around in a giant corn maze, check out the latest, the newest, and the biggest farm equipment on display, take a farm wagon tour, eat ice cream and hot dogs. There will be something for everyone among the many activities, booths, farm buildings, and fields at Maine Farm Days, Tuesday and Wednesday, August 23 and 24 at the Wright Place Farm on Horseback Road in Clinton.

The public is welcome, free of charge, families are encouraged to attend, and camp and youth activity directors are invited to put Maine Farm Days on the list of "things to do for campers."

The Wright Place Farm is a working dairy farm. It was started in 1956 with 300 acres and seven cows. Today the operation includes about 2,000 acres and milks about 650 cows. With 16 full time employees, the farm milks 130 cows per hour and ships over 15,000,000 lbs of milk annually. That's 1,744,000 gallons!

In addition to tours of the farming operation, there will be activities throughout the two-day event from 9 am to 5 pm each day. There will be animal and equipment exhibits, equipment demonstrations, a tractor rodeo, milking contests, horse drawn wagon rides, concessions, and much more.

The Wrights, their neighbors, and a corps of helpful volunteers will be on hand to "show off" the farm. For more information call Fran Hale at 445-5712 or contact the Kennebec Soil & Water Conservation District and Kennebec NRCS Office at 622-7847, ext. 3. Ask for a brochure and schedule . . . or just show up at The Wright Place Farm on August 23 and 24.
