One Heart With Two Violins

A Song for Esther and Charles

Charles and Esther Pierce

Charles and Esther Pierce

He played with big bands in Chicago
She played the classics in the East
They lived in very different worlds
To say the very least
They raised two very loving families
Then lost their mates in tragic ways
And both were living in such lonliness
Until that shining day — when they became

One heart playing two violins
Two souls strung together by strings
And from sunrise to sunset
Through thick and through thin
They are one heart playing two violins

From that moment when he saw her
Playing so sweetly from the stage
Every empty lonely moment
Took flight and flew away
She was touched by his attention
He was thrilled that she could feel
That life giving moment
When hurt is finally healed — and they became

One heart playing two violins
Two souls strung together by strings
And from sunrise to sunset
Through thick and through thin
They are one heart playing two violins

Now they live upon a pond that turns to gold
When the summer sun sets into the West
And you can hear them on the early evening breeze
Playing all those suites and songs
They love the best

One heart playing two violins
Two souls strung together by strings
And from sunrise to sunset
Through thick and through thin
They are one heart playing two violins

"One Heart With Two Violins" was written about Great Pond residents Esther and Charles Pierce by Con Fullam of Windham (right) for their 2004 appearance on Bill Green's Maine, on WCSH, Channel 6. Esther Pierce is the mother of playwright Ernest Thompson.
