Health Center Staff Works On Quilt Fundraiser

Selling raffle tickets

"A project by the entire staff" is the phrase that best describes the "Lady of the Lake" quilt that is being raffled by the Belgrade Regional Health Center. Wanting to help with the current capital campaign to raise money for a new facility, the Health Center staff selected the qilt-making project because every single member could participate.

As a group, the staff studied patterns, picked out four, and selected one. One of the employees, who is a quilter, instructed the others in cutting and piecing, and everyone spent off-hours quilting. The final contribution will be when the doctors tie it off with suture stitches.

"It's been very exciting having everyone work together," says Janelle Sylvester, who works at the clinic. Six hundred dollars has been raised to date through the raffle tickets that sell for $2 each or $5 for three.

With visit numbers up and the need for more space, the new Belgrade Regional Health Center is still in the planning stage. Plans are to pattern it after the Bingham Health Center on either Route 27 or at the site of the existing building on School Street. Funds are being raised through grants, private donations, foundations, and the central office in Waterville. Jack Sutton of Belgrade is head of the capital campaign committee.

The drawing for the quilt will be on Tuesday, September 7, at the Health Center. Tickets are available at local businesses or the center. For more information call 495-3323.
