Long before 9/11 and long after the summer season ends, there is a group of people who help keep this region safe, enjoyable and secure. Ready to hit the floor running in the dark of the night, willing to take risks to help others, these are the volunteers who fight fires and rush to emergencies.
On July 25, local residents and summer visitors alike were treated to a concert of 19th band music played on authentic instruments. The Yankee Brass Band, whose members live throughout New England and beyond, comes together for only one week each year to rehearse and perform.
From now until October 15, the L.C. Bates Museum at the Good Will Hinckley Schoo will offer a special exhibit, "Portraits: Maine Natural History." The show is unique in that the artwork is displayed throughout the natural history sections of the museum, close to exhibits that portray similar animals or settings.
