73rd Anniversary of the Eastern Music Camp
A Preble Studio print, entitled "Massachusetts Group 1931, Eastern Music Camp" The 73rd anniversary reunion of members of Eastern Music Camp was held on July 20 at the New England Music Camp on Lake Messalonskee in Sidney. Opened in 1931, the Eastern Music Camp a great musical success but a financial struggle survived only through the season of 1934. The facility re-opened in 1937 as the New England Music Camp, which is a continuing success story. Original campers present at the reunion were Esther Carr Pierce and Stewart Smith. The gathering, which included others connected with EMC, was in the new memorabilia building. Host and hostess of the anniversary celebration were Howard and Sally Warner, recently retired faculty teachers. An interesting display of pictures and programs had been arranged by the Warners and the NEMC historian for the reunion. Picture-taking by the historian, refreshments, and an informative talk by NEMC co-director Jan Wiggins were part of the afternoon's program.
