An outing to the Theater of Monmouth, the Shakespearean Theater of Maine, offers many extras. There's the scenic drive from every direction, the attractive, historic town, the unique theater building, and the new restaurant. If the timing is coordinated, there are many sights and sites to see along the way. And, this season's list of performances offers an intriguing variety.

True to its Shakespeare tradition, The Theater At Monmouth is offering a selection of the bard's best. The romantic comedy As You Like It and Roman classic Antony and Cleopatra will both be presented during the theater's regular schedule through the third week in August.

In addition, Robert Sherwood's Idiot's Delight, a comedy drama set in the Italian Alps on the eve of World War II, and The Liar, an 18th-century Italian comedy, will be rotated on the summer schedule.

Tickets are a reduced rate of $10 for adults and $8 for children. It's a great introduction to theater and to the historic Cumston Hall were the Monmouth plays are performed.

Special performances are also on the summer schedule including The Complete History of America, Abridged, created by Long, Martin and Tichenor, who are known for the Compleat Wrks of Shakespeare of seasons past. On August 27 and 28, the Two Lights Theatre Ensemble will perform El Cid au Flamenco. From September 23-October 4 the Monmouth cast will perform Gilbert & Sullivan's Iolanthe.
