Children Have Fun At the L.C. Bates Museum

L.C. Bates Museum

The L.C. Bates Museum at the Good Will Hinckly School.

Natural history and rural Maine culture are high on the list of what the L.C. Bates Museum has to offer among its many displays. Children are high on the list of the many audiences the museum hopes to reach.

Wetlands Exploration

"Wetlands Exporation" will be on August 28.

Beavers and their friends

Learn about "Beavers and Their Wetland Friends" on July 24.

To connect the two, the museum offers regular Saturday workshops at 10:00 a.m. that are fun, informal and hands-on. These workshops run from the middle of May through most of the fall weekends. They cost $1.00 admission and take advantage of the museum's many nature exhibits and natural surroundings. The programs for the rest of the 2004 season will be:

Additionally, the museum offers Summer Art Programs on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. The last one of the series will be on July 28.

On selected Sundays, Afternoon Short Videos follow by a hands-on activity are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. The next two will be "Wooly Mammoths" on August 22 and "Fall Colors" on September 19.

Leaf study

For schools, libraries, youth groups, and special parties, the L.C. Bates Museum offers both outreach and in-house programs.

The L.C. Bates Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Currently the summer art exhibit, "Portraits — Maine Natural History" is open in the art gallery.
