Nowetah's: "Where The Past And Present Meet"

Nowetah's

A gift shop with Native American clothes, jewelry, beadwork, and dreamcatchers.

Indians represent a significant role in the settlement and culture of central Maine, and Indians are the focus of a unique family enterprise located on Route 27 north of Farmington in New Portland — Nowetah's American Indian Museum and Gift Store.

There visitors can browse through the displays of art and artifacts from all parts of the United States, Canada, and South America, admire the special exhibit of over 400 Maine Indian baskets and bark containers, or shop for gifts of all sizes and prices.

Run by Indians who are descended from the St. Francis, Abenaki, and Paugussett tribes, the Museum is open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., free to the public. Items are well labeled and curator Nowetah Wirick is on hand to provide more in-depth explanations. She and her family also hand craft many of the articles for sale.

For more information call 628–4981 or write to nowetah@sofcom.com. The museum is wheelchair accessible.
