It all begins with a tug at the heart, this season that so transforms our part of the world. The summer birds arrive, then the snowbirds. Green advances cautiously, then bursts forth out of control. The heating bills dwindle. The remaining woolens get tucked away hat by scarf by mitten. And, we are free.
The L.C. Bates Museum in Hinckley is one of the largest natural history museums in New England. The museum also organizes a major art exhibit each year. Put art and natural history together and the result is unique. "Portraits Maine Natural History," on exhibit from May 15 through October 15, 2004 is intended to enhance Museum visitors' appreciation of Maine's natural history and to see Maine's outdoor environment from a new perspective.
Spending summer vacations on the lake near the North Belgrade station is a family tradition. I came my first time at age six months. Needless to say, I don't remember that or the next couple of years, but from then on there are a lot of wonderful memories.
