Kennebec Highlands and Area Trail Map Now Available

Kennebec Highlands Map

For awesome hiking, biking and x-c skiing trails, the Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance has recently published the BRCA Trail Map and Guide to the Kennebec Highlands and Nearby Areas.

Initiated in 1998, the Kennebec Highlands project has protected more than 5,300 acres in Rome, Mt. Vernon, Vienna and New Sharon and has made them available for low-impact recreational activities. Funded in partnership with the Land for Maine's Future Program, the area is being managed by BRCA in cooperation with the Maine Department of Conservation.

The Kennebec Highlands contain the highest peaks in Kennebec County, miles of clear stream, several wetlands and five undeveloped ponds. The BRCA is currently raising funds to purchase several additional adjoining parcels. BRCA's most recent acquisition was the March purchase of the ten acres that encompass the summit of Mt. Philip in Rome.

The full-color trail map includes trail descriptions for the Kennebec Highlands area in central Maine and other BRCA lands, including The Mountain, French Mountain and Mt. Philip, all in Rome. It can be purchased at Belgrade businesses or through the BRCA office in the Boathouse in Belgrade Lakes. For more information about the map, visit the Kennebec Highlands Project web site or e-mail brcakh@gwi.net or call 495-6039.
